A Texas judge will permit an emergency abortion in the first instance of its kind since Wade v. Roe

 On Thursday, a Travis County judge granted permission for a woman in Texas to have an emergency medically indicated abortion—the first one in the state since before the landmark Roe v. Wade ruling was made fifty years ago.

Following the 2022 overturn of the historic U.S. Supreme Court decision that established a federal right to an abortion, Texas enacted a nearly complete ban on abortion, with the exception of a few serious health issues.

Kate Cox, a mother of two from Dallas, along with her husband and OB-GYN, filed the lawsuit on Tuesday on behalf of the Center for Reproductive Rights.
