Rap Lawsuits Against Hip Hop Artists Draw Attention to Pervasive Misogyny in the Sector

 

Rappers and well-known hip-hop artists in the United States have been the target of alarmingly high numbers of rape lawsuits in recent years. The most recent case, involving Cassie and Diddy, has raised concerns about the industry.

This trend is extremely alarming because it is a reflection of the industry's widespread misogynistic and violent culture.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms are reported by 94% of women who have experienced rape, according to the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN). Nearly one-third of survivors still struggle with these symptoms after nine months, and a startling one-third of women who have experienced sexual assault attempt suicide.
